Sea Sickness Remedies??

We're going to have a VERY choppy ferry ride from Holyhead to Dublin overnight tomorrow.

Pepper will be fine because she will be tucked up in her cage in the RV, but what should Penny and I do to stave off the dreaded sea sickness??

I don`t suffer,,,,, but have heard "Quells" are as good as any..

Or these =

1. Stugeron 15

Pack of 15 tablets, £2.10

The tablets contain 15mg of the antihistamine cinnarizine, highly effective in preventing and treating travel sickness. To be taken two hours before travel.

The effects last for up to eight hours. May cause drowsiness

I find those seasickness wrist bands amazing, I use them a lot.

I take it Pepper doesn't get travel sick?

Stugeron works for some but makes you good for nothing else. I spent two decades boating with a poor stomach.
Wristbands helped a lot.
Look outside at the horizon.
Try not to get too hot.
Do not bend down to tie a shoelace.

Motion sickness is the result of conflicting information from your eyes and the motion sensors in your ears. Reduce the conflict by seeing that you are indeed moving.

If all else fails eat lots of jelly. It doesn't help but feels and tastes the same coming back up!

Two pints of Guinness and a full English is the way to go .... just try not to think about being sea sick, as you will talk yourself into it !!

On the voyage to Santander I thought I was dying over the Bay of Biscay.

On the voyage home , armed with my wrist bands..no problems !!

Think positively, you're not going to be sick!.

As kids, we used to take a day trip from Liverpool to the Isle of Man, always selecting a rough crossing.

We would walk past people feeling ill with hot smelly food, it used to cause mayhem, but as we were having a good time, never got sick!!

The crew used to smile at as as they thought it funny!!

Try not to use the loo's as the smell won't be good.

If you're going on the "cruise" ship (old chugger) you're less likely to get sickness than on the Cat.

Look at the horizon and try to get some fresh air, plenty of that mid channel . Usually don't get sick myself, but had a bad crossing Cherbourg/Dublin last year, boy was I bad, it's no joke. Just try not to think about it too much , good luck.

Lucky you. All my previous dogs (six of them in total over the years) were brilliant travellers but this one can't even go 3 miles to the shops without looking peaky. And any further and he throws up. He's OK on a motorway until I have to come off the motorway and use normal roads. I always drive as if I have a German Shepherd standing up on the back seat (which used to be the case!) so am very careful. But he is not good in cars. I take him a short journey (couple of miles) to walk him but that's about his limit of small roads. He flies well though, didn't mind flying!!

After flying in RAF (engineer not pilot) jets upside down backwards and inside out from a young age I never get queasy..Even some of the pilots did if they had been away on hols for a while. Went to Northern most Orkney Isles via ferry in a storm and even the Orcadians were barfing ME? I treat it like a free fair ride Wheeeeeeee. Sorry to hear that Tony and Penny its a miserable feeling (wifey has a bad time too) She used anti sea sick stuff too and wrist bands. (helped a bit)

Get as close to the centre of the ship as possible....fore and aft, port and starboard, deck and keel.

Minimal movement at that point.

Worked for me on the old IOM steampacket companies converted minesweeper ferries.

We rented a self sail 26ft yacht out of Corfu a few years ago.

Heavy seas, strong winds and almost horizontal sails.....no problem at all for me...too busy to worry.

Leaward side of Corfu....no wind, no waves, a millpond......just a very gentle rocking motion and barfing for England In the barfing olympics
